Ford's latest Expedition will now serve the law enforcement community with the 2025 Expedition Special Service Vehicle (SSV).

Available in two-row or three-row configurations, the SSV is designed with functionality and durability in mind for police duties. Orders are now open for departments nationwide. Differences between the SSV and civilian Expeditions are minimal, focusing on practical upgrades for law enforcement use.

Vinyl flooring replaces carpeting, and a special security mode restricts unauthorized access to the cargo area. An optional "dark mode" allows officers to turn off all interior lights when needed. Ford leaves specialized lighting and fixtures to third-party upfitters, providing agencies with a blank slate to customize their fleet vehicles.

Expect the 2025 Ford Expedition SSV to function mostly as a command vehicle, similar to the Jeep Wagoneer L for law enforcement.

Under the hood, the SSV is powered by the same 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 found in civilian Expeditions. It delivers 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The SSV retains its impressive towing capabilities, rated at 7,000 pounds standard or 9,600 pounds with a weight-distributing hitch. Look for them towing Zodiac boats in remote and waterfront communities.

All models feature four-wheel drive, 18-inch aluminum wheels, and optional black steel wheels with center caps for a true police-spec look.

The 2025 Expedition SSV carries over the new-generation Expedition’s technological upgrades. A 24-inch driver display sits atop the dashboard, extending slightly behind the 13.2-inch center touchscreen for seamless information access. At the rear, Ford’s Split Gate tailgate supports up to 500 pounds, offering a practical solution for organizing police equipment on the go—or coffee breaks.

“Duty is at the heart of everything our valued law enforcement customers do, and that’s a standard Expedition SSV is built to meet,” said Lindsey Bertino, Ford's Police Brand Marketing Manager.
