The Hemi V8 Will Be Made In The USA Again

You've heard it before— the Hemi V8 may not be gone for good. According to the latest report, Stellantis is preparing to restart production of several Hemi V8 engine variants as early as this summer at its Dundee Engine Plant in Michigan.
Key Points
- Stellantis is reportedly restarting production of 5.7, 6.4, and supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8 engines at its Dundee Engine Plant by August 2025
- Insider documents suggest the V8 could return to the Ram 1500 lineup and continue in the Dodge Durango R/T through the 2026 model year
- Despite renewed interest, Stellantis claims the next-gen Charger will not accommodate the V8 without platform changes
The alleged play would be a spectacular resurrection for the Hemi, which officially ended production at Stellantis' Saltillo facility in Mexico. A report from Mopar Insiders claims the Dundee facility will build the 5.7-liter, 6.4-liter (Apache), and supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat V8s. The only exception is the 6.4-liter BGE engine used in heavy-duty Ram trucks, which will continue to be manufactured elsewhere.
The plan reportedly involves using Stellantis’ existing Gen 3 architecture, though minor updates may be included. There’s also speculation that a larger displacement Hemi variant could be added to the lineup in the future.
The production revival follows a shift in leadership at Stellantis. Former CEO Carlos Tavares, widely blamed for the decision to sunset the Hemi, was successfully sent walking in late 2024. His exit appears to have opened the door to V8 investment.
If accurate, the revived V8s could return to key volume models like the Ram 1500. Leaked documents suggest the 5.7-liter Hemi could remain in the Durango R/T through at least the 2026 model year. There’s also speculation about the Ram 1500 receiving a new TRX variant powered by the 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat engine.
If production resumes as expected in August, the Hemi V8’s surprise comeback could arrive just in time for the 2026 model year.
