Comparison of Spelab Intakes

Helping your engine breathe with an updated intake is a simple way to make performance gains, and Spelab has multiple options that will get your 6.7L Cummins diesel breathing easy. But what’s really the difference from one intake to the next? Let’s take a closer look at the characteristics of three different options and find out which could work best for you.

All three are designed to work on the 6.7L Cummins diesel found in Dodge and Ram trucks, dating from 2007 straight through 2025.

We’ll start with the best option for your budget, this 6.7 Cummins intake horn replacement. The easy, bolt-on install ensures better airflow with little hassle, ultimately allowing your turbocharger to hit its desired pressures more quickly than the stock intake, delivering better acceleration with little lag. The stainless steel construction should perform well in both hot and cold conditions and the mirror polish finish looks sharp. All for a price at $99, this is the first step to getting your engine breathing better. However, you might consider other options if you live in a place with extreme climate conditions.

The next step up the ladder is the this 6.7 Cummins intake horn with heater, helping to provide reliable startups in cold climates all while reducing engine wear and eliminating excessive white smoke. Made from T-304 stainless steel, the heat dissipation, strength and corrosion resistance are maximized on this unit to deal with more extreme swings in temperature. This upgrade also helps to avoid some well-documented issues on the 6.7L Cummins, namely uneven air distribution that over-feeds certain cylinders while starving others, along with the dreaded factory grid heater bolt and nut that can fail and drop directly into the air intake, leading to costly internal damage. It’ll cost you a bit more, but if you live in an area with a harsh winter, getting the added cold weather performance is worth it.

If you want to maximize performance from your engine and won’t stand for second best, then the clear choice is the final bit of gear in this comparison, this 6.7 Cummins intake horn upgrade made of cast aluminum alloy. At two times the OEM diameter, this intake horn upgrade improves airflow by 88%, a big jump over stock. And with a direct fit to the stock mounting points, it’s an easy way to get up to 15% more horsepower from your Cummins. Designed with provisions for a heating element, this intake can also be prepped for cold climates, helping you to avoid the heater bolt into the intake problem that many have experienced. A new 45-degree angled sensor connector allows for easier access and more precise sensor installation than stock, while four ⅛” NPT threaded ports allow for boost gauges and additional sensors to be added. Not to mention this intake can be had in black, silver or red, helping the aesthetic of your engine as well.

With an option for all budgets and conditions, Spelab has a simple intake upgrade that will not only keep your Cummins running smooth for many miles, but could also squeeze a little more out of it as well. And right now, Spelab is offering 15% off everything on its website when you use the code “affiliate,” so head over there right now and pick up what your Cummins has been missing.

Nice that you don't mention that 2 of the 3 options require EGR delete and aftermarket tuning in order to run these.
