Tesla Applies for Two Roadster Patents, So Maybe It's Still Happening?
Our sleuth has uncovered some interesting new applications with the United States patent office. It appears Tesla has applied for two new patents, both pertaining to trademarks over the brand’s alleged upcoming reborn roadster.
The first patent is simply the words ROADSTER in a stylized font while the second is an image consisting of three curved lines. The latter could hint at the vehicle’s shape, or simply be the logo for use online and in other branding.
What isn’t in the patent are any details on the upcoming car itself, and this application could simply be Tesla protecting the company’s intellectual property whether or not a new Roadster does come to fruition. With the recent cancellation of the slow-selling Model S and Model X, now doesn’t seem to be the time the company would invest in a new, low-volume niche product: especially with Tesla’s shifted emphasis on the Optimus humanoid robot.
But, if there’s one company that loves to do what’s unexpected, it is Tesla. So, we’ll have to wait and see if the Roadster does eventually get revealed.
