Hyundai Launches New Top Trim for IONIQ 9

Hyundai has revealed a new version of its three-row electric SUV, the 2027 IONIQ 9 AWD Performance Calligraphy Black Ink. The model debuted at a media event near the company’s Metaplant in Georgia and is expected to reach dealers this summer. It will be built in Bryan County, Georgia.

This trim is essentially a darker, more design-focused take on the existing IONIQ 9. It’s finished exclusively in Abyss Black Pearl and adds a range of blacked-out exterior details, including black chrome accents, gloss black roof rails, black trim pieces, and unique 21-inch wheels. The overall look leans more toward subtle than flashy.

Inside, the changes follow the same theme. The cabin uses an all-black color scheme with aluminum trim and a matching steering wheel. It keeps the six-passenger layout, with reclining and ventilated seats in the first and second rows, along with heated seats in the third row. There’s also an eco-suede headliner made from corn-based materials.

Power comes from the same dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup found in the top IONIQ 9 models, producing 422 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. A 110.3-kWh battery is standard. Hyundai says the SUV supports up to 350-kW DC fast charging on its 800-volt system, with a 10 to 80 percent charge taking about 24 minutes in ideal conditions. It also includes a built-in NACS port for access to Tesla-style charging stations.

Tech features are largely carried over. The SUV includes a head-up display, a 14-speaker Bose audio system, a digital rearview mirror, remote parking assist, a panoramic roof, and built-in front and rear dash cams. Vehicle-to-load capability and multiple high-output USB-C ports are also included.

In short, the Calligraphy Black Ink version doesn’t change the fundamentals of the IONIQ 9. It’s the same vehicle underneath, with a darker design theme and a full list of features.
