Bugatti New Special Edition is Super Fly
Bugatti has revealed another custom-built model through its Sur Mesure personalization program, called the W16 Mistral “Fly Bug.” The car was created for a returning collector who has now commissioned four nature-inspired Bugatti models.
The W16 Mistral “Fly Bug” follows earlier projects including the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse “Hellbug,” the Chiron “Hellbee,” and the Divo “Lady Bug.” This latest car takes inspiration from a dragonfly, with its design focused on color changes, layered patterns, and insect-inspired details.
According to Bugatti, the project began through discussions between the customer and Frank Heyl, the company’s Head of Design. The concept was then developed further by Bugatti’s Color, Materials, and Finish team at its Berlin design studio.
A recurring design theme connects all four cars in the collection. For the Mistral, Bugatti created an ellipse-shaped pattern that becomes denser toward the rear of the car before fading into the air intakes.
The exterior is finished in a new paint color called “Dragonfly Blue,” which shifts between blue and turquoise depending on lighting and viewing angle. The same finish was also applied to the wheels.
Inside, the cabin continues the same theme with custom leather and Alcantara materials arranged in a geometric pattern. Bugatti says the design extends across both the door panels and armrests, which required additional engineering work to ensure the materials fit properly over curved surfaces.
One of the more complicated elements of the build involved integrating the Bugatti Macaron badge into the ellipse graphic along the side of the car. Bugatti says this is the first time the emblem has been incorporated directly into a body-side graphic.
The gear selector also includes the brand’s “Dancing Elephant” sculpture, a reference to designs created by Rembrandt Bugatti, brother of company founder Ettore Bugatti.
Bugatti says the project took several months to complete from final design approval to production. The finished car joins the owner’s existing collection of custom Bugatti models centered around themes from the natural world.
