Rumor has it that Lexus is working on a next-generation IS F model, despite past reports of its cancellation.

Long a purveyor of dependable but somewhat dreary luxury cars Lexus continues to reinvent itself. Products like the limited-production (and totally awesome) LFA supercar as well as enthusiast-focused F Sport models demonstrate the brand’s newfound passion. And this blue beauty is writing the next chapter in Lexus’ journey.

After racing up Pikes Peak earlier this year Lexus is continuing to push the performance enevelope with its IS F CCS-R race car announcing that it will compete in this year’s 25 Hours of Thunderhill.

Lexus has announced that the 2014 IS-F will live on, but won’t share the same changes that the new 2014 IS models have.

With improvements made to the race car using feedback from driver Ken Gushi, the Lexus IS-F CCS-R set out to conquer this year’s Pikes Peak in hopes of joining the nine-minute club.

Now that the new 2014 Lexus IS has hit the market, the Japanese automaker is working on the Lexus IS F Coupe, and AutoGuide’s spy photographers have just spotted one testing.

The 2014 Lexus IS saw dramatic changes and the next-generation IS F will receive an equally big transformation, including a new powerplant.

The Lexus IS-F CCS-R is heading back to the 2013 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, and this year it’ll be sporting a fan-based decal thanks to Lexus and the Tony Hawk Foundation.

Back in 2000, Lexus established its LS and GS models, but was sorely lacking a ‘foundation’ car to attract new customers, which is why it launched the first generation IS.
