Cheapest Electric Truck – Ranking the Highest to Lowest Price

Electric pickup trucks appear to be the next big thing in the world of EVs.

It makes sense as many folks need a pickup truck’s size and utility from time to time, but don’t need the vehicle’s high fuel bills. With a large frame, electric pickup trucks have plenty of space to store equally large battery packs, to ensure the trucks have enough power and range for day-to-day use.

Not every company approaches making all-electric pickup trucks the same way. Some manufacturers are building dedicated platforms for the brand’s EV trucks while others are incorporating battery-drive technology into existing architecture. Regardless of which set-up is chosen, we are in the infancy of EV pickup trucks and few choices are currently offered.

Of the handful of models that are currently on sale, there’s a large range in pricing. To help sort out what’s available or coming soon, we have ranked all offerings from the most expensive to the cheapest electric truck.

5. GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1

The first entry in our list is the soon to be built GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1. Having a truck that should start above $100,000 may seem a bit odd on a list of the cheapest electric truck, but as mentioned, there aren’t many players in this field yet. Plus, this is the fully loaded, top of the line model that will have 754 hp and 785 lb-ft of torque, as well as a 400 mile driving range.

We expect after this initial allotment is sold, more affordable versions of the Sierra EV will be introduced and the truck will closer mirror that of its corporate sibling, the Chevrolet Silverado EV. The Sierra EV is not built on the same platform as the regular gas-powered Sierra. It instead is built on a scaled-up version of GM’s Ultium platform.

4. GMC Humer EV SUT

Next on our list of the cheapest electric truck is another entry from GMC. This time it’s the Hummer EV SUT. Not as purpose built of a pickup truck as the rest of the entries on this list, the Hummer makes up for it in pure performance. The new Hummer truck features a triple motor set-up that is good for an incredible 1,000 hp. It also generates 800 lb-ft. of torque, which is good since the truck weighs in around 9,000 lbs.

As should be expected from something wearing the Hummer badge, the EV SUT is wholly capable off-road, with features like Crabwalk and Extract Mode. GMC estimates this big truck can travel about 350 miles on a single charge. With all these impressive features and specifications, it’s no surprise that pricing starts at $89,645.

3. Rivian R1T

The midway point on our list of the cheapest electric truck is the Rivian R1T. An upstart auto manufacturer, Rivian is focusing on building two models currently, the R1S SUV and the R1T pickup truck. The latter starts at a price of $73,000 in the United states and comes with a dual motor set-up. It generates over 600 hp and 600 lb-ft. of torque, sending power to all four wheels. This makes for one seriously quick truck, that like the Hummer EV, is very capable off-road as well.

If the entry-level Rivian R1t isn’t enough EV truck for you, there is an enhanced dual-motor version making around 700 hp. Or for even more performance, the quad-motor version pumps out 835 hp and 908 lb-ft. of torque. Of course, these upgraded trucks will cost more than the R1T’s starting price listed above.

2. Ford F-150 Lightning

The Ford F-150 Lightning was the first mainstream all-electric pick-up truck on sale and remains one of the most affordable. Offered in several trims, the entry level Pro trim level has a starting price of $55,974. Available only with the Supercrew body style, the F-150 Lightning Pro comes with a 98 kWh battery pack. The dual motors send 462 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels and is good for about 240 miles of range.

There is a larger 131 kWh battery pack available that increases horsepower to 580 and range to 320 miles. But the cheapest way to get that configuration costs just over $80,000. The F-150 Lightning is the only truck on our list that uses the same basic platform as its gasoline powered siblings.

1. Chevrolet Silverado EV

Toping our list of the cheapest electric truck is the upcoming Chevrolet Silverado EV. Like the GMC Sierra EV Denali, there will be a six-figure version of the Silverado EV at launch, called the RST. But unlike GMC, Chevrolet will launch a much more affordable version at launch as well. How affordable? Chevrolet claims the Silverado EV WT will start at just $39,900. This is an incredibly low price when compared to the others on this list.

The WT will come with all-wheel drive, four-wheel steering, and a dual motor set-up making around 510 hp and 615 lb-ft. of torque. As of now, Chevrolet is claiming a 400 mile range for even the WT trim of the Silverado EV which is impressive. If this trucks arrives as advertised at the price point listed, it could really shake up the electric truck segment.
