The 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse Gets Color-Shifting Paint, Loads Of Blue Interior Accents
The Mustang Dark Horse gets a bevy of bespoke touches.
When Ford took the wraps off the Dark Horse edition of its latest generation of Mustang, it was kind of easy to handwave it away as simply yet another trim package with a slick name and dark trim. But, no, Ford has put more energy into the 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse, to make it stand out from the rest of the lineup.
Ford makes use of terms like “Sinister style,” and “athletic,” as it attempts to imbue that spirit through the Dark Horse. “The sinister and track-hungry attitude of Mustang Dark Horse inspired us to curate colours and materials in a way that underscores the vehicle’s athleticism,” said Carrie Kennerly, Ford senior color and materials designer, via press release.
Inside, there’s a big, blue shifter ball made of anodized aluminum. It’s lightweight and designed to stay cool even in the heat. For customers that choose the 10-speed automatic, the shift paddles behind the steering wheel are made of the same anodized metal. Touches of Indigo Blue trim dot the interior, and if the buyer opts for the Mustang Dark Horse Appearance Package even more blue accents can be found on the seatbelts, or the very bolstered Recaro race seats.
The biggest eyecatcher would be the color-changing exterior paint called “Blue Ember.” This paint is blue, but with traces of amber that create the effect where the color changes depending on the viewing angle, and lighting. It’s a complex color that Ford says took some development from the Ford Color Mastering team.
All Mustang Dark Horse editions come with a plaque that denotes the car’s chassis number. Pricing hasn’t been revealed, but given its special equipment and color-changing paint, we expect it to be a bit pricier than the regular GT model.
