A Mazda6 Diesel Might Finally Be Happening
Spy photographers have caught what appears to be a diesel-powered Mazda 6 at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
While other automakers are withdrawing their diesel offerings in the U.S., Mazda has been promising diesel variants for years. The Japanese automaker has been teasing a CX-5 diesel for quite a while, and now it appears the Mazda6 diesel will finally be added to the lineup.
Wearing the SkyActiv-D badge, this test car was spotted at the EPA in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It appears Mazda is in the process of getting the model certified in the U.S. after all these years.

In Europe, the 2.2-liter turbocharged diesel engine offers 173 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque and can be paired to either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic. It’s unclear if those specs will carryover to the U.S. powerplant, but do expect only an automatic transmission to be offered.

Holy poop! Maybe it will actually happen. Now let's hope diesel prices drop below $3.50 a gallon to make it worthwhile!!
