Aston Martin to Debut Luxury Lagonda SUV in 2021

Aston Martin’s newly christened luxury brand, Lagonda, will debut its first official series production vehicle in 2021 – a fully electric SUV.

The British supercar maker detailed its plan to launch a luxurious sub-brand under the Lagonda marque earlier this year with the autonomous and electric Lagonda Vision Concept (below). As the design sketch above shows, Lagonda SUV will be heavily inspired by the concept, sharing a similar silhouette, grille and front and rear ends. Aston Martin says it will also be “built around near-future technologies, such as its advanced Battery Electric drivetrain.”

“In reviving one of the most iconic names in motoring we have created a unique opportunity,” said Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer. “One that allows us to cast aside an inherited 20th century approach and instead design cars around 21st century demands and desires. The Lagonda SUV is the first of its kind: a spacious, high-performance 4×4 that successfully reconciles a love of technology, luxury and style.”

The Lagonda SUV is scheduled to debut in 2021. It may share a platform with the upcoming Aston Martin DBX crossover, which is scheduled to arrive in 2019. The DBX Concept was a pure EV, but the production DBX may come with conventional fossil fuel powertrains on offer, in addition to an electric one. This likely won’t be the case with the Lagonda SUV, as Aston Martin is keen to make it a pure-electric brand.

“Lagonda is a luxury brand, but it is also one rooted in technology,” concluded Aston Martin creative boss Marek Reichman. “It will be like no other SUV to drive, so its looks have to reflect that new reality and to serve as pathfinder to a future in which the most desirable and prestigious automobiles still have a place.”

More details on the luxury Lagonda SUV will become available as its admittedly far off debut date nears.
