The 2011-2012 Hyundai Sonata is being recalled for an issue with its brake pedal stopper pad.

The recall affects nearly 305,000 units in the U.S., manufactured between December 11, 2009 and June 30, 2011. According to the recall notice, the brake pedal stopper pad can deteriorate over time, causing the brake light switch plunger to remain extended when the brake pedal is released. If the brake light switch plunger does not retract, it can cause the brake lights to stay on at all times, increasing the risk of a crash. In addition, the transmission can be shifted out of park without depressing the brake pedal.

To resolve the issue, Hyundai will replace the brake pedal stopper pad with an improved part on the affected vehicles free of charge. The automaker has not received any reports of injuries related to the issue and the recall is expected to begin on January 11, 2016.
