Scout Reportedly Delayed Until 2028
Scout's highly anticipated launched in the United States has been reportedly pushed back by a year until 2028 due to technical issues, according to The Drive, which is citing German publication Der Spiegel.
A Scout spokesperson did not immediately respond to AutoGuide's request for comment.
Scout originally planned to launch as an all-electric brand, but has since pivoted to a mix of pure EVs and extended range electric vehicles as the U.S. market has slowed for electric models and the Trump administration ended a $7,500 federal tax credit for EVs.
Scout, backed by Volkswagen, marks the return of a brand famous for its off-road SUVs and trucks in the 1960s and 1970s. The new models, with retro yet updated styling, caught the attention of off-road and EV fans alike when the VW announced its return several years ago. Scout is also planning a factory in South Carolina.
Scout's product plans include the Terra pickup truck and Traveler SUV. This post will be updated as more info becomes available.
While officially, Scout has no comment. An executive said on Scout's official forum:
"The German publications love their headlines and "sources say" articles - it all makes for good headlines people click on.
"We are still moving full steam ahead, bringing Scout back to market. Everything is moving forward and making good progress. Much like the guy who is balancing spinning plates on sticks and running back and forth to keep them spinning to prevent them from falling, we are juggling a lot at once. New factory. New suppliers. Two completely new vehicles. Could there be potential delays? Of course. But I will let you all know as quickly as I can if there are any official changes or major announcements."
