Lewis Hamilton and Kim Kardashian Confirm The Rumors
Lewis Hamilton is a lot of things: Seven-time Formula 1 World Champion, activist, automotive enthusiast... and now apparently significant other to none other than Kim Kardashian.
Just a few months after the two were spotted at the Super Bowl together, it seems the news of Lewis and Kim being a couple wasn't just a rumor. Hamilton was recently in Japan for the Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix, and while there, he starred in the third iteration of his "Tokyo Drift" social media video series. The central point of the video is a Ferrari F40 and the amazing roads and cars of Japan, but as it turns out, Kim was along for the ride.
Look, the F40 is iconic enough itself. Throw in Lewis, and it's simply a natural pairing of two of the best to ever exist in their own lanes. Have Larry Chen photograph the whole thing, and it's a match made in motoring heaven.
Add Kim Kardashian to the mix and, well, a lot of people are left feeling like Nathan Fillion in the famous gif from Castle. That is to say, utterly bewildered, possibly disappointed, and certainly left speechless.
Lewis seems like as good a guy as there is, making a lot of the public confused by his pairing with Kardashian. Lewis has also generally been a low-profile guy, with no public relationships to speak of in over a decade; his last confirmed significant other was Nicole Scherzinger, and that was from 2007 to 2015. Kim's public dating life has been the exact opposite of that.
While Kardashian's presence in the "Tokyo Drift Vol. III" video—one liked by over 2 million people at the time of this writing—is minimal and brief, she's certainly there. She even looks right at the camera and seems to say "That's insane." Whether that comment is about the F40 or Lewis' driving is anyone's guess, but take a look for yourself.
AutoGuide's Take:
Celebrity relationships are extremely foreign to most people, and this is about as big a celebrity relationship as it gets (or at least in the motorsports-Hollywood crossover scene). There will inevitably be a ton of visibility into this, even despite Lewis' best efforts, and undoubtedly it will be a topic of conversation among Formula 1 fans and those in celebrity fan groups alike.
So now that they're "Instagram official," we (and much of the automotive media) can't help but wonder: Does this matter at all aside from the obvious fanfare? Whether it does, this was certainly a hell of a way to announce you're dating someone—assuming that is in fact the case, since neither party has really said anything confirming things one way or another.
How will it pan out? Well, apparently Lewis' mom isn't on board with this particular move, which might be a problem since she and Lewis have such a close relationship. Only time will tell if Lewis and Kim can stand the test of time.
As big Formula 1 fans, the bane of our existence is when crucial race moments are missed on screen due to the producers showing the rich and famous in the paddock instead of the action on track.
Naturally, the news of Lewis Hamilton and Kim Kardashian dating gives us big worries on this front; if anyone can pull a camera her way in the face of millions of viewers, it's Kim.
