Brabus Builds a Million-Dollar G-Class
Brabus has built a four-door Mercedes G-Class convertible, unveiling the 900 Rocket Edition Cabrio in Monaco during the yacht show, paired with pricing that clears a million euros.
Based on the Mercedes-AMG G 63, the car pairs 900 metric horsepower (888 hp) with a two-piece electric soft top and extensive structural work. Production is capped at 10 examples worldwide. Buyers face an export figure of €890,740, roughly $1,019,000, before German VAT. Add the tax and the total reaches €1,059,980, about $1,210,000.
Forged pistons, new connecting rods and a purpose-made crankshaft take the reworked twin-turbo V8 out to 4.5 liters, up from the donor G 63's 4.0. The engine develops 888 hp and peaks at 922 lb-ft, though Brabus caps the twist reaching the wheels at 774 lb-ft.
Even with that limit, the sprint to 62 mph takes 3.7 seconds from rest, and the top end is held to 149 mph. Brabus attributes the speed cap to the tires on a tall, roofless SUV.
Fitted at each corner are 24-inch forged Monoblock II wheels, shod in 295/30 tires at the front and 345/25 at the rear, while a KW-developed adjustable suspension can lower the body by 1.8 inches. Four side-exit tips and switchable valves let the exhaust drop into a quieter "Coming Home" mode or open up for a louder Sport setting.
Of the more than 500 new components the conversion required, the headline piece is the two-piece electrically operated soft top, which stows or deploys in 20 seconds and includes a heated glass rear window.
The metal roof's removal costs rigidity, which Brabus counters with a reinforced windshield frame, added bracing throughout the body, and a steel roll bar. Positioned aft of the rear doors, that bar wears an exposed carbon-fiber skin styled to complement the body kit.
According to Brabus, each completed car spends over ten hours enduring simulated downpours inside a climate chamber ahead of delivery. Owners also get a blockchain-backed digital passport that logs the vehicle's authenticity, chain of ownership and build details.
The project follows Brabus's 1,000-hp Bodo Cabriolet, limited to 77 units. It arrives alongside the confirmed factory G-Class Cabriolet, previewed by the Mercedes-AMG G63 Cabriolet, which Mercedes plans to roll out worldwide starting in 2027 and reach the US around 2028.
