Jaguar Land Rover has confirmed that the Range Rover Evoque and Velar will be discontinued, ending production of its two entry-level models in mid-2027 as the automaker pushes the Range Rover badge further upmarket.

The company confirmed both SUVs "will continue to be sold in selected global markets where demand remains strong, throughout 2027," with production ending in the middle of that year "in line with their natural product lifecycles, as JLR's manufacturing facilities transition to build its next generation of vehicles." Range Rover global managing director Martin Limpert had earlier indicated that neither model would see a new generation.

Both cars are aging. The current Evoque debuted in 2018 and received a mid-cycle refresh for 2024. The Velar is older still, having arrived in 2017, and it too was updated for 2024.

Cutting both models raises the cost of entry into a Range Rover badge considerably. It leaves the brand with the traditional Range Rover, the Range Rover Sport, and the incoming Range Rover GT. The restructuring plays out across JLR's two main plants. Solihull will focus on the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, and the forthcoming Jaguar Type 01, while Halewood transitions to produce the new Range Rover GT alongside an additional Defender-family model.

The lower end of the market appears set to fall to the Defender and Discovery brands instead. JLR has confirmed a new Defender-family model, and a reportedly smaller Defender could step into the space the Evoque leaves behind. The Discovery, meanwhile, is already priced roughly on par with the Velar.

Both departing models arrived as controversial projects but ultimately helped JLR grow its sales, making the Range Rover name more accessible to buyers. That approach even produced the Range Rover Evoque Convertible. When the Evoque and Velar bow out, they will follow the Discovery Sport, which is confirmed to end production this year.
