Ford, GM Both Sending Vehicles, Donating Cash For Trump's Inauguration
Ford and General Motors have announced donations of $1 million each, along with vehicles, to support U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s January inauguration.
The contributions come amid significant policy discussions under Trump’s incoming administration that could directly impact the Detroit automakers, including proposed tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada and the potential elimination of the EV tax credit, Reuters reports.
Ford, navigating challenges in scaling its electric vehicle lineup, sees the inauguration as an opportunity to maintain dialogue with the new administration. CEO Jim Farley expressed optimism about Trump’s willingness to consider the company’s viewpoints, given Ford’s substantial role in the U.S. economy and manufacturing sector. General Motors echoed similar sentiments, and its plans to provide vehicles for the event.
The donations from Ford and GM join contributions from other major corporations such as Amazon and Meta Platforms. Trump’s 2025 inauguration fundraising efforts follow a precedent set during his 2017 festivities, which raised a record $106.7 million.
By comparison, Democratic President Joe Biden garnered $61.8 million for his 2021 inauguration, supported by companies like Pfizer, AT&T, and Boeing.
