Ford acknowledged today that its hybrid fuel economy claims are unrealistic for real-world driving. 

A pair of California law firms are consolidating lawsuits against Ford, alleging that the American automaker has falsely marketed its MPG claims for its C-Max Hybrid and Fusion Hybrid vehicles.

Ford is currently under fire for mileage claims on the Fusion and C-MAX Hybrid models, but the automaker is standing firm by its claims.

After the recent debacle with Hyundai and Kia over their inaccurate MPG claims, Ford may now be under the spotlight as fuel economy numbers for its new hybrid models don’t seem to be living up to expectations.

Ford is now letting its customers choose between an all-wheel drive Fusion Titanium with a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine or a Fusion Hybrid Titanium model for the same price.

Did the Toyota Prius finally get its first real competitor? The 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid has an EPA estimated at 47-mpg city and highway, and will start with a base price of just $27,200.

Just as Toyota is facing a potential recall of its popular Prius hybrid for brake problems, Ford has today announced a recall of its own, affecting the Fusion Hybrid and Mercury Milan hybrid. The comparatively small recall affects 17,600 Fusion and Milan hybrids built on or before October 17, 2009.

On Saturday, April 25th at 8:15 a.m., Ford set out to show just how fuel-efficient its new Fusion Hybrid sedan really is. With drivers including NASCAR racer Carl Edwards, as well as CleanMPG.com founder Wayne Gerdes and several FoMoCo engineers, the team drove the 2010 Fusion Hybrid non-stop until it ran out of gas.
