Mitsubishi, Jeep, Scion and Infiniti were but a handful of automakers that saw their sales fluctuate greatly in August. Which ones laughed all the way to the bank and which ones slipped? 

Like memories of band camp August is dead and buried. Regrettably the eighth month of the year didn’t go quietly; it took summer down with it. Sure, the season’s not officially over but we’re too emotionally devastated about the loss to care. At least new-vehicle sales in the U.S. were strong.

Both General Motors and Subaru posted banner sales last month but the industry as a whole did very well in August. Across the board deliveries were up 17 percent in the U.S.

GM’s August sales were the best they’ve been in the better part of a decade and this strong showroom performance seems to indicate an economic recovery is in fact underway.

Aston Martin has officially confirmed the American debut of the One-77 and V12 Zagato, which will take place during the Pebble Beach automotive week in Monterey from August 17th to the 21st. The British automaker will commence the celebration on the evening of Wednesday August 17 where the V12 Zagato will have its official American debut.

Nissan’s has built a Catamaran to compete in the 2011 Class A Catamaran World Championship from August 13- 20 in Skødstrup, Denmark.
