The J.D. Power Pulse Survey has revealed some interesting statistics with self-driving cars.

The study found that 40 percent of consumers are willing to switch to insurance carriers who offer discounts for semi-autonomous features. Nearly 70 percent expect insurance carriers to offer discounts for vehicles with advanced safety features. Which means if you’re driving a car that is equipped with advanced safety features, you may want to contact your insurance company to see if you’re eligible for a discount.

While there have been plenty of studies involving people’s skepticism towards self-driving cars, the J.D. Power Pulse Survey found 22 percent of consumers are likely to consider a “highly-automated” vehicle for their next purchase. Among the consumers polled, 26 percent said the most common factor that would influence their decision to purchase an automated vehicle is fewer accidents. Nearly a quarter, 24 percent, said less driving stress is the most common factor, while 15 percent pointed to lower insurance premiums.

Consumers are also holding themselves to a higher standard, according to the survey. Nearly 40 percent say that drivers have some responsibility when an accident occurs in an automated vehicle, compared to 22 percent who believe the OEMs or manufacturers of the autonomous sensor technology are to blame.
