Top 10 Most American-Made Cars: 2017
For the first time in its 11-year history, the American-Made Index has been revamped.
It’s no surprise, considering last year’s American-Made Index from Cars.com only yielded eight cars, so it was only a matter of time before the methodology was changed. Had Cars.com used its original requirements this year, only three 2017 models would have qualified, which doesn’t make for a terribly exciting study.
This year, the American-Made Index became an analysis of cars assembled in the U.S. with high domestic parts content, predominant U.S. sourcing for engines and transmissions, and high U.S. manufacturing jobs supported per vehicle. It also de-emphasized overall sales.
