Aston Martin Rehberger Vantage GTE Heading to Le Mans
Aston Martin has unveiled a unique art car that will compete in this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Dubbed the Aston Martin Rehberger Vantage GTE, the art car was designed by artist Tobias Rehberger with the aim of giving the Gulf number-97 Vantage GTE the illusion of movement and speed, even when static. Rehberger, who is known for his abstract art and optical effects that distort perception, was invited by Aston Martin Racing to create a livery that would work with the Gulf Vantage GTE’s lines and colors in a way never attempted before.
As a result, the Aston Martin Rehberger Vantage GTE features a unique design that uses geometric shapes and patterns to give the car a real sense of motion.

According to the British automaker, the owner of the racecar commissioned this livery after being a long-time admirer of Rehberger’s work. Watch for the Aston Martin Rehberger Vantage GTE at the 24 Hours of Le Mans this weekend.
“My design for the Aston Martin art car is rooted in my interest in distorted perception and related phenomena like auto moving patterns, optical effects, camouflage and visual confusion, which I have addressed in many works before,” said Tobias Rehberger. “In this case, the design is based on a geometric optical effect pattern. Comparable to a fast object, a steady fixation on a point of the pattern is impossible.”
