Lotus Esprit Lives On, Cancellation Just a Rumor

Contrary to what we reported on AutoGuide earlier today, Lotus has informed us that the cancellation of Esprit production is simply a rumor.

“Until an official of Group Lotus, Lotus Cars Ltd or DRB-Hicom makes any announcement it’s just rumor and supposition,” said Lotus Cars USA PR boss Kevin Smith.

The last public release of any information from Lotus came from COO Aslam Farikullah in a press release distributed July 26 announcing production of the Exige S V6. Within the release, Farikullah writes, “our new philosophy is simple: we will keep announcements about our planned products to a minimum. New models will only be launched when the product and timing is right. Once we do launch a new product, we will ensure that we can deliver to customers anywhere in the world as scheduled.”
