The MINI Cooper S JCW GP is getting updated, and will debut at the Mini United 2012 event in La Castellet, France this May. This new John Cooper Works GP MINI promises to be the brands most sports focused model yet.

We have already caught a glimpse of the new car thanks to some spy photos, and it will be getting a new lowered suspension system, a large rear spoiler, a new front bumper, 18-inch wheels and a new rear diffuser.

For power, the MINI GP will likely use a 1.6-liter turbocharged four cylinder engine which should make around 220 hp. It is still unknown whether the new GP will have two seats or four seats, or how many will be made. The previous generation was a two seater, and only 2000 units were produced, so we are curious to see if MINI keeps the same style and marketing ideas as in the previous generation.

A MINI spokesman said, “With a particularly high-performance turbo engine, racing-oriented suspension technology and exclusive, aerodynamically optimized body components, the Mini John Cooper Works GP follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, which caused a stir back in 2005 as the most powerful and the fastest road-approved Mini at the time.”

The availability of this car here will also be interesting as out of the 2000 units produced of the last gen JCW GP, only 415 made it to America.
