10 Coupes People Still Love
There are big changes on this month’s list of the most-researched coupes in America. In fact, three out of the top five entries are new to the list.

10. Mercedes-Benz CLE
Casual observers may not realize just how few traditional coupes are left in the Mercedes-Benz lineup. For the 2025 model year, the CLE is pulling duty as one of two two-door machines in the German brand’s lineup, and the other is the Mercedes-AMG GT that starts at more than $100,000. Mercedes’ mainstream coupe is offered in CLE 300, CLE 450 and AMG CLE 53 guises, and, as we’re sure you’d have guessed, as the power increases, so does its price.
9. Porsche 911
Europe’s quintessential sports car also happens to be the only one with its engine bolted in the wrong place. But as fans of the 911 series will tell you, Porsche’s big-brain engineers have somehow managed to make it work, and have been doing so since 1964. The fact that the Porsche 911 has been on the market for so long certainly doesn’t hurt its online popularity, leading it to a ninth-place finish on the list of the most-researched coupes in August.
8. Toyota GR86
The Toyota GR86, developed in cooperation with partner Subaru (which has its own version of the car on sale in the form of the BRZ), is a light and nimble rear-wheel-drive coupe with enough power from its 2.0-liter four-cylinder to provide miles of entertainment on tight, twisty roads. It’s not a powerhouse, but it’s not meant to be. The fact that it’s been on the market (initially in Scion-branded dealerships) since 2013 proves its popularity.
7. Audi A5
Like the Mercedes-Benz CLE that we saw in 10th place, the Audi A5 is a new entry to the list of the most-researched coupes for the month of August. But unlike the Benz, the Audi … well, isn’t really a coupe. At least not anymore. For the 2024 model year, the A5 was offered in three styles: a coupe, a convertible and a fastback-style Sportback with four doors. For 2025, only the Sportback remained from the previous generation, and an all-new A5 debuted with a single sporty four-door shape.
6. BMW 2 Series
Well, at least the BMW 2 Series is still a traditional coupe, right? Well, sort of. There are two cars sharing floor space in BMW dealerships wearing 2 Series badges. One of them is a sedan that’s based on a front-wheel-drive chassis. The other one is what we’re interested in here, a rear-wheel-drive performance-minded machine available with turbocharged four- and six-cylinder engines and an honest-to-goodness coupe shell.
5. Nissan Z
Another new model on the list of the most researched coupes in America for the month of August is the Nissan Z. Nissan’s Zed-badged sports car is now in its seventh generation, and it’s part of a dwindling list of legitimate two-door sports cars. Motivation comes from a 400-horsepower V6 engine that sends its ponies to the rear wheels through either an automatic or six-speed manual gearbox. Get one while you still can.
4. BMW 4 Series
Unlike its main competitors, Audi and Mercedes-Benz, BMW still offers a real range of two-door coupes in North America. We saw the 2 Series in sixth place, and now we come to the 4 Series, which is also new to the list for the month of August. It’s in-your-face front-end styling may not be for everyone – those nostrils look big enough to challenge Dyson for sucking supremacy – but its excellent driving dynamics and powerful range of engines are sure to appeal to drivers looking for a coupe that offers luxury and sportiness in equal amounts.
3. Chevrolet Corvette
America’s sports car is new to the list for the month of August, but it’s not at all new to fans of world-beating performance for a price that undercuts its rivals by tens of thousands of dollars. First introduced way back in 1953, the Chevy Corvette has stood the test of time as an American icon, and in its most recent mid-engine guise is fully competitive with the best that Europe or Japan has to offer.
2. Dodge Charger
Well, this is awkward. The Dodge Charger earns a spot on the list because it is indeed offered in a two-door configuration. It debuted in fully electric form to much fanfare but has been anything but a sales success. It’s now offered in both two- and four-door form, and soon with both electric and traditional gasoline-fueled powertrains. Here’s hoping a return to its roots brings with it an increase in sales.
1. Ford Mustang
Some things never change. The Ford Mustang has been at the top of the most-researched coupes list for as long as we’ve been putting it together. It’s the last of America’s blue-blood muscle coupes still on sale, leading the way as the Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger have been taken off the market. Fortunately, the Mustang is an excellent machine with a range of powerplants – all of them fueled by gasoline, unless you could the Mach-E electric crossover – with heady performance capabilities.
