6 Coupes with Surprisingly Large Rear Seats

Two door coupes are few and far between these days. Once a family car staple in the 20th century, these sleek shapes seem to have fallen out of favor due to decreased comfort and impracticality. This is especially true for those with rear seats. Over the past decade countless 4-5 seat coupes have been discontinued. The Honda Accord, Hyundai Genesis Coupe, Chevrolet Camaro, Nissan Altima; all dead.

But for the remaining coupes with rear seats, there are a few surprisingly spacious options. Ok, not all the vehicles on this list are a surprise, but some might be. It’s also important to note we are only including true 2-door coupes. None of those 4-door vehicles with coupe in the name, like the Mercedes-Benz CLA or BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe, are included.

Below, in alphabetical order are six coupes with surprisingly large rear seats.

BMW 2 Series Coupe

Starting our list is arguably the most shocking entry, unless of course you own one. The rear- or all-wheel drive BMW 2 series coupe is the smallest car here but can fit adults in the rear seat. In fact, with 39.8-inches of headroom and 32.2-inches of legroom, the rear-world comfort exceeds this Bimmer’s larger siblings, the 4 Series Coupe and 8 Series Coupe.

Dodge Charger Daytona 2-Door

It may be all-electric for now, but the Dodge Charger’s size and shape are classic Americana. The massive 2-door coupe has a rear seat compartment that’s identical to the four-door version of the Charger. Even if the 36.9-inches of headroom is a bit low, the 37.2-inches of legroom is quite generous and taller passengers can slide down a bit in the rear seat.

Ford Bronco 2-Door

Not a car, the Ford Bronco SUV isn’t a big surprise to be on this list as the 2-door is a big box on wheels. Headroom is nearly 40-inches and legroom is just a bit under 36-inches. Plus, the roof can come off, giving those in the rear and even more airy feel. Be warned though, on the highway, the wind buffeting in the back is fierce.

Jeep Wrangler 2-Door

The Jeep Wrangler is the longest running 2-door on this list and is an obvious direct competitor to the Bronco. Offering the exact same 35.7-inches of rear legroom, the Jeep one-ups the Bronco with 41.7-inches of headroom. Most full-size adults can fit back here in a pinch. Of course, the roof also comes off in the Wrangler, but rear seat passengers do need to content with a rollbar and speaker blocking some of their view.

Mercedes-Benz CLE-Class

The new Mercedes-Benz CLE Coupe is designed to split the difference size-wise between the C-Class and the E-Class. It has one of the smaller back seats on our list, but for small-to-medium adults, there should be plenty of space. The headroom may only come in at 36.0-inches, but there is more legroom on tap compared to the BMW 2 Series listed earlier.

Rolls-Royce Spectre

It’s crazy that two of the coupes on our list are both all-electric, and even wilder that they are the two most spacious. But Rolls-Royce cars have always been as much about those sitting in the back as those in front, so it should come as no surprise that the Spectre offers a spacious rearward cocoon. It’s not all about headroom and legroom here either as every luxury comfort possible is included in this uber luxury ride.
