These Are America's Top 10 Most Stolen Cars—Is Yours On The List?
Auto theft in the United States finally took a step in the right direction last year, but the numbers show there’s still plenty of work to be done.
According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB), vehicle thefts fell by 23 percent in 2025, in what the agency calls a “historic decline.” Even with thefts down nearly a quarter, nearly 660,000 vehicles were still stolen, which works out to one car disappearing roughly every 48 seconds.
Despite the nationwide drop, California continues to lead the country in vehicle theft, with close to 137,000 reported cases in 2025. The Los Angeles area alone saw significantly more thefts than any other metro region, nearly doubling totals seen in places like New York and New Jersey.
On the flip side, states like Washington and Colorado recorded some of the biggest year-over-year improvements.

Even with theft declining, prevention remains critical. The NICB recommends a mix of old-school and modern strategies:
10. Nissan Altima
The Nissan Altima is 10th on this list with 8,445 vehicles stolen in 2025.
9. Honda CR-V
The Honda CR-V is 9th on the list of most stolen vehicles in America with 9,809 vehicles stolen last year.
8. Toyota Camry
The Toyota Camry is 8th on the list of most stolen vehicles in America, narrowly surpassing the CR-V with 9,833 vehicles stolen last year.
7. Ford F-150
The Ford F-150 is the first pickup truck on the list of most stolen vehicles in America. The popular pickup finds itself 7th on the list with 10,102 vehicles stolen.
6. Kia Optima
Despite being discontinued, the Kia Optima still finds itself as the 6th most stolen vehicle in America, with 11,521 cars disappearing last year.
5. Honda Civic
The Honda Civic remains one of the most popular targets for thieves. Honda's compact sedan clocks in as the 5th most stolen vehicle in America, with 12,725 cars stolen.
4. Chevrolet Silverado
Interestingly, the Silverado was stolen at a significantly higher rate despite the F-150’s higher overall sales volume. 16,764 Silverados were relocated without consent last year.
3. Hyundai Sonata
Hyundai and Kia have multiple vehicles on the top-10 list of most stolen cars, and here's another one. The Hyundai Sonata was the third most taken vehicle last year, with 17,687 vehicles going missing.
2. Honda Accord
High-volume vehicles like the Accord are easier to steal and easier to part out. That’s why 17,797 Accords disappeared last year.
1. Hyundai Elantra
Good news, theft rates for Hyundai vehicles dropped by about a third, thanks to updated security software and anti-theft measures rolled out in recent years. Bad news, the Elantra is still one of the most targeted vehicles in America, with 21,732 thefts last year.
