2026 Subaru Forester Wilderness: All The Details
Subaru has unveiled the 2026 Forester Wilderness, the latest iteration of its most rugged Forester trim, featuring increased off-road capability, revised suspension, and upgraded technology. Set to arrive at dealerships in fall 2025, the new Wilderness variant builds on the standard Forester’s sixth-generation updates with more ground clearance, improved approach and departure angles, and a revised all-wheel-drive system.

The 2026 Forester Wilderness is powered by a 2.5-liter Subaru Boxer engine producing 180 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque.
The enhanced Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system locks the center differential faster and reduces wheel spin, while incorporating steering angle data for improved stability on paved roads.
Suspension updates include longer coil springs and shock absorbers, increasing ground clearance to 9.3 inches—up slightly from the 2025 model’s 9.2 inches.
Subaru has also refined the approach, departure, and breakover angles, with the approach angle increasing from 19 degrees to 23.5 degrees, breakover from 19.6 to 21 degrees, and departure from 24.6 to 25.5 degrees.
Yokohama Geolandar all-terrain tires are now standard, mounted on 17-inch anthracite-colored wheels, offering better grip on mud, gravel, and loose surfaces.
An upgraded transmission cooler allows the Wilderness to tow up to 3,500 pounds, and a rear differential temperature sensor provides additional monitoring for trail use.
The 2026 Forester Wilderness features exclusive styling elements that distinguish it from other Forester trims.
Roof rails rated for an 800-pound static load (176 pounds dynamic) provide added versatility for carrying gear.
The exterior also features LED hexagonal fog lights, underbody protection, and anodized copper-finish accents on the bumpers and tow hook covers.
The Subaru Global Platform now features 10% increased torsional rigidity, achieved through a new full inner frame construction, stronger welding, and additional structural adhesive.
Technology updates include Subaru’s latest EyeSight Driver Assist Technology, which now operates more smoothly and quickly, with an expanded field of view and improved software.
Standard safety features include Adaptive Cruise Control, Reverse Automatic Braking, and Blind-Spot Detection.
The 2026 Forester Wilderness aims to enhance off-road capability without compromising daily usability, reinforcing Subaru’s position in the adventure-ready SUV segment.
Inside, the Forester Wilderness is equipped with StarTex water-resistant upholstery, designed for durability and easy cleaning.
Rear seat legroom remains at 39.4 inches, and with the rear seats folded, the Wilderness offers up to 69.1 cubic feet of cargo space.
The 11.6-inch Subaru Multimedia Plus system comes standard, offering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM, Bluetooth connectivity, HD Radio, and over-the-air updates.
