The list spans EVs, hybrids, crossovers, and even heavy-duty trucks—each with an above-average incident rate and a story behind the stats.

Let’s count down the most crash-prone models in America for 2024.

drivers of these 10 cars are more likely to crash
10. Chrysler Voyager – 11.2% Accident Rate

The budget-focused Voyager minivan is a workhorse for families and fleets alike. But it also logs an unusually high number of accidents. Distracted driving, shared fleet usage, and high mileage may all be contributors.

9. RAM 2500 – 11.2% Accident Rate

This heavy-duty truck is built for hauling and towing, not precision driving. Its massive size, long stopping distances, and limited visibility can make navigating crowded roads a challenge—especially when driven daily.

8. Chevrolet Bolt EV – 11.4% Accident Rate

The smaller sibling to the Bolt EUV, this compact electric hatch shares many of the same concerns. It’s agile and zippy, but that can get inexperienced drivers into trouble.

drivers of these 10 cars are more likely to crash, 8 Chevrolet Bolt EV 11 4 Accident Rate
7. Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid – 11.4% Accident Rate

Efficient and budget-friendly, the Ioniq Hybrid is often seen as a Prius alternative. But it lands in the top 10 for crashes while the Prius is closer to the bottom of the list.

6. Jeep Wrangler (YJ) – 11.6% Accident Rate

The original square-headlight Wrangler continues to rack up miles—and incidents. A lack of modern driver-assist tech and dated crash protection standards means older Wranglers may be overrepresented in accident stats.

5. Volkswagen ID.4 – 11.7% Accident Rate

Volkswagen’s electric compact SUV has grown in popularity, but it’s also appearing more often in crash reports. Whether it’s the learning curve for EV handling or screen-heavy infotainment interfaces, or something else entirely, is unclear.

4. Jeep Wrangler Unlimited – 11.7% Accident Rate

The four-door Wrangler may be an off-road icon, but its high center of gravity and rugged build don’t translate perfectly to pavement. Jeep’s flagship SUV appears high in crash statistics year after year.

drivers of these 10 cars are more likely to crash, 4 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 11 7 Accident Rate
3. Chevrolet Bolt EUV – 11.8% Accident Rate

New EV drivers and unfamiliar regen braking may be behind the Bolt EUV’s high crash rate.

drivers of these 10 cars are more likely to crash, 3 Chevrolet Bolt EUV 11 8 Accident Rate
2. Mazda Mazdaspeed 3 – 12.6% Accident Rate

A turbocharged hot hatch with a cult following, the Mazdaspeed 3 delivers big fun and a whole lot of power to the front wheels. But that same charm may be its downfall—enthusiastic driving combined with aging safety systems means it’s statistically one of the most accident-prone cars on U.S. roads.

drivers of these 10 cars are more likely to crash, 2 Mazda Mazdaspeed 3 12 6 Accident Rate
1. Kia Soul EV – 15.1% Accident Rate

The quirky, boxy Soul EV is beloved for its practicality and city-friendly size—but it tops this list with the highest accident rate in the country. Whether it’s the instant torque of electric power or driver demographics, it’s clear that Soul EVs end up in more fender-benders than anything else.
