Passenger vehicles make up the overwhelming majority of what's on American roads, with 92 percent of all registered vehicles falling into that category. They also cover the most ground, accounting for 88 percent of all miles traveled. Breaking things down further, light trucks—a group that includes SUVs, pickups, and vans—were involved in 43.2 percent of reported crashes, while traditional passenger cars accounted for 38.1 percent.
