Toyota has issued a safety recall affecting over 100,000 Tundra pickup trucks and Lexus LX600 SUVs in North America. The recall concerns debris left in the V-6 engines of certain 2022 and 2023 models during machining–affected models are powered by the V35A-FTS twin-turbocharged V-6 engine.

During production, engine machining debris may not have been adequately cleaned from these engines, posing a risk of contamination. It's believed the issue involves engines manufactured between an undisclosed period, specifically with certain crankshaft main bearings The debris, coupled with the high pressure on these bearings could potentially lead to bearing failure. Symptoms of this problem include engine knock, rough running, or the engine failing to start. In more severe cases, this can result in a sudden loss of power while driving, increasing the risk of an accident.

409 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque are available from the Lexus

Approximately 102,000 vehicles are impacted by this recall, including Tundra pickups and LX600 SUVs with the base engine. The recall does not affect the optional hybridized i-Force Max variant. Toyota is currently working on a solution and plans to notify affected owners by the end of July 2024.

Owners can check if their vehicle is affected by visiting Toyota’s recall page at Toyota.com/recall or the NHTSA website at nhtsa.gov/recalls. By entering their vehicle’s VIN, owners can access more information regarding the recall.
