Buyers Are Noticing The Quality Of These Pickup Trucks Right Away
Ford and Chevrolet pickup trucks rank at the top of the best-selling vehicles list each and every year in the United States. It turns out they are also ranked quite highly in J.D. Power’s 2025 Initial Quality Study.

In fact, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and Ford F-150 tie for first place in the 2025 Initial Quality Study (IQS), putting them in front of the Toyota Tundra in the Large Light Duty Pickup segment in this year’s report, which surveyed 92,694 purchasers and lessees of new 2025 model-year vehicles after 90 days of ownership. The Ram 1500, winner of the segment in 2024, failed to earn an award in 2025.
In the Large Heavy Duty Pickup segment, the Ford Super Duty series of trucks came in first place and the Chevy Silverado HD came in second. Ford lumps all of its F-Series trucks into one sales figure, so it’s impossible to know the breakdown between light-duty and heavy-duty sales from the Blue Oval, but we know that Chevy sold 183,746 HD trucks and 358,771 Silverado 1500 trucks. Again, Ram, which came in third last year, failed to earn an award in the HD class in 2025.
Moving down a size class, there was a tie for the top-ranked Midsize Truck in J.D. Power’s 2025 IQS, though the trucks that tied don’t exactly match up. The Hyundai Santa Cruz is a small truck that shares much of its chassis with the Korean automaker’s crossover lineup. The Jeep Gladiator, on the other hand, is a rugged truck with a body-on-frame design derived from the popular Wrangler SUV. Regardless of their differences, they tied for first in front of the Nissan Frontier in second.
While there isn’t anything particularly trucky about minivans, other than the fact that they can hold quite a bit of stuff in their cavernous cabins when all the seats are removed, J.D. Power ranked the people movers along with pickups in its IQS report. At the top of the Minivan segment is the Honda Odyssey, followed by the Chrysler Pacifica and Kia Carnival. Yes, we’re a little surprised the Toyota Sienna didn’t earn even a third-place finish, too.
